Be Able Travel was created in 2015 by a wheelchair user with FSH Muscular Dystrophy and a vision impaired person who has been blind since shortly after birth. We found that despite our best research, what was classed as accessible by websites/other people’s reviews, in reality wasn’t always the case. With over 1 Billion people worldwide (Wikipedia), 11 Million of those in the UK alone, living with a limiting long term illness, impairment or disability (Gov.uk) much more needs to be done to improve accessibility in the UK and the rest of the world. How many business are missing out on customer revenue because their establishment is simply not accessible!
With Be Able Travel we hope to achieve a comprehensive database of reviews from all over the world to enable disabled people to be informed without having to rely on the venues for the information. Who knows, maybe together we can change accessibility for the better, one review at a time!
